I will live in New Jersey until my house in New Orleans is fixed.

1.  Describe the events that made you leave your previous home?  What happened to your home?  What happened to your neighborhood?

I left my home due to Hurricane Katrina. My home suffered severe wind, rain and hurricane damage.

2.  When you left your home, where did you go?  How did you travel?

When I left New Orleans on 8/28/05, I drove to Houston. I stayed in Houston for 7 days and then drove to New Jersey.  I traveled in my Ford Explorer.

3.  What agencies have helped you?  (Red Cross, FEMA, Salvation Army)  How has that experience been?

The agencies that have helped me has been.  PWOC, FEMA, Red Cross, Newark Emergency Services, Mothers on Duty, New Hope Baptist, Church.  The experience was very professional on every occasion.

4.  How did you arrive at your current home?  Who helped you find your home?

PWOC helped me find my current home.

5.  Did you stay at a shelter or transitional center before you moved into your current home?  If yes, what was that like?

I never lived at a shelter, I stayed at the Robert Treat Hotel.

6.  What has been easy in the transition?  What good experiences have you had?

The best experiences that I have had has been people coming together to help out.

7.  What has been difficult in the transition?

Everything has been difficult in this transaction; there isn't just one thing.  I am going through a huge cultural shock; everything is different, i.e, food, people, housing etc.
